On UAE sites, "JCB" is commonly used to mean the backhoe loader: a front shovel for loading and moving material, a digging arm on the back for trenching, and wheels that let it move around the site quickly. Backhoe loader or excavator?
A backhoe loader trades depth and digging power for flexibility. Its rear arm reaches roughly 4 to 6 metres down, which covers most service trenches, and the same machine can turn around and backfill or load a truck with the front shovel. For a job that mixes small digs with moving material, one backhoe often replaces two machines.
Where it falls short is volume and depth. Bulk excavation, deep foundations and anything that keeps a machine digging all day is faster with a tracked excavator, which is more stable and digs harder. A backhoe also needs firm ground under its stabilisers; on very soft sabkha a tracked machine usually copes better.
Standard or 4x4
On a paved yard or compacted site, a standard backhoe does the job. On loose sand, freshly backfilled ground or a plot that has not been compacted yet, a 4x4 machine keeps its traction when the front shovel is loaded, and loses less time getting stuck between tasks.

Getting it to site
Backhoe loaders are moved between sites on a flatbed or lowbed trailer, which we arrange with the booking, with delivery timed around heavy-vehicle restricted hours on city roads. Tell us the date and site and we will confirm the dispatch time.
