Equipment Rental in KEZAD: A Guide for Warehouse Operators

KEZAD, still widely called KIZAD, is one of the UAE's largest industrial and logistics areas, built around Khalifa Port in Al Taweelah between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Businesses here run warehouses, container operations and factories, and their equipment needs are different from a building site: the same machine is needed every shift, for months, and a gap in supply stops the operation. This guide explains how to plan equipment hire around that.

KEZAD and KIZAD: Which Name Is Right?

Both refer to the same place in everyday use. KIZAD, Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi, was the original name. In September 2022, AD Ports Group merged KIZAD with the Specialised Economic Zones company (ZonesCorp) to form KEZAD Group, Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi, which now covers 12 economic zones across the emirate. Suppliers, drivers and gate staff will understand either name, but it helps to give your exact zone and plot when booking, because KEZAD Group's zones are spread across a wide area.

Decide Between On-Demand and Stationed Equipment

This is the main decision for a KEZAD operator.

On-demand hire suits occasional jobs: a seasonal peak, a one-off machine installation, a shipment that needs a larger forklift than you own. From our Mussafah yard, a forklift typically reaches KEZAD within 2 to 3 hours of a confirmed booking.

Stationed equipment on a long-term contract suits anything you use every day. The machine stays at or near your facility for the length of the contract, at a fixed monthly rate that includes standard maintenance and breakdown replacement. You stop paying for repeated delivery, and you stop depending on a machine being free on the day.

A simple test: if the same forklift or telehandler would be on your site more than a few days each month, compare the monthly contract rate against what you are spending on separate hires. Our article on renting versus buying heavy equipment covers the wider cost comparison.

Match the Machine to the Work

Most KEZAD requests fall into a few groups:

  • Forklifts (3 to 25 tonnes) for pallets, container stuffing and unloading, and yard stacking
  • Telehandlers where goods need to be placed at height or reach, or the ground outside is uneven
  • Mobile cranes for machinery installation, steel erection and plant fit-out on new plots
  • Lowbed and flatbed transport for moving machinery in or out

If you are unsure whether a forklift or telehandler fits your yard, our forklift versus telehandler comparison sets out the differences. For container work, the deciding factor is the heaviest single item inside, so share the packing list.

Sort Out Gate Access Before the Delivery

Industrial and free zones manage who and what comes through the gate, and individual facilities often add their own rules for vehicles, drivers and delivery hours. A delivery that arrives without the right clearance waits at the gate, and you pay for the time.

When you book, tell your supplier:

  1. The zone, plot number and the gate the delivery should use
  2. Any pass or clearance your facility needs for the driver and vehicle
  3. Your permitted delivery hours
  4. A contact person on site who can receive the machine

We arrange access with your facility ahead of delivery, so this is settled before the truck leaves the yard.

Plan the Journey as Well as the Lift

Equipment reaches KEZAD by road on a trailer. Two things are worth knowing:

  • Abu Dhabi restricts heavy vehicles on city roads during peak hours, which can affect deliveries routed through the city. Check the current hours with Abu Dhabi Mobility.
  • Larger machines travelling on a lowbed may need route approval as an oversized load, which adds lead time. Our guide to oversized-load permits explains when that applies.

For a first delivery to a new facility, it also helps to check where the trailer can stop and unload. Our checklist for preparing a site for a lowbed delivery covers this.

New Plots and Fit-Outs

KEZAD is still being built out, and new plots need more than warehouse equipment. Construction and fit-out work calls for excavators and site plant, cranes for steel and heavy machinery, and access equipment for work at height. If you are moving into a new facility, planning the installation lifts and the day-to-day handling fleet together usually saves a second mobilisation.

FAQs

Is KEZAD the same as KIZAD?

KIZAD (Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi) is the earlier name. In September 2022, AD Ports Group brought KIZAD and ZonesCorp together as KEZAD Group, Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi. Many people still say KIZAD when they mean the zone next to Khalifa Port.

How fast can a forklift reach a KEZAD warehouse?

From our Mussafah yard a forklift typically reaches KEZAD within 2 to 3 hours of a confirmed booking. For operators who need a machine every shift, stationing equipment on site under a long-term contract removes that travel time altogether.

What is the minimum term for a long-term contract?

Long-term rates typically start from one month, with better pricing at three, six and twelve-month terms. Shorter on-demand hire is also available for occasional needs.

Who arranges gate access for the delivery?

We coordinate access and any driver or vehicle clearance with your facility before delivery, so the equipment is not held at the gate on arrival. Let us know your facility's requirements when you book.
